I just recently returned from attending the Shadow Lane party in Vegas. Actually, I returned last weekend, but only just found the time to write about my adventures there.

If you’ve never been to a large, organized spanking party weekend, you wouldn’t believe all that you hear about them. Think of a big group of people who are into spanking descending on a hotel and taking it over. You’re walking down the hallway after checking in and you hear the sounds of spanking coming from room after room. A sly smile spreads across your face. You’ve just had your first indicator that you’re among friends…YOUR kind of friends. That’s only one of the many amazing things you’ll hear, see and, if you’ve done your social networking before attending, get to do.

Okay, about that social networking. If you’re serious about actually getting in on some spanking action, a first time attendee, especially, but even someone like me who has attended almost every Shadow Lane party since they began throwing them, has to do a little pre-party networking. In my case, it’s so that I actually know whose lap I’m climbing over. I won’t have trouble spanking, or getting spanked. But, I might find myself in a situation that is not to my liking. There are only so many situations in which one has time to engage, so I like to make sure the ones in which I do are satisfying to me and the other person involved. The SL site itself is a good place to begin, but anything from MySpace, to Fetlife, to Twitter will help you make acquaintances and appointments to meet those acquaintances once you’re at the party. It’s essential. Otherwise, you’ll walk into the Friday night meet and greet they call the Vendor Fair completely clueless. Trying to meet people and hook up at that point is very, very difficult unless you’re an established spanking star, or extremely gifted with good looks, charm and spanking savvy.

Some people get there a couple of days ahead of the actual Friday night start. They like to get an early start on the spanking festivities. Being a responsible spanking producer and Webmistress, I don’t have the luxury of being able to get there any earlier than Friday afternoon. My husband Larry and I took longer getting away from the business than we planned. We got to the hotel at 6:15 p.m. for a 7 p.m. begin to the Vendors Fair. The Friday night meet and greet is called the Vendor Fair because it affords crafts people (paddle, cane and strap makers) and movie producers to set up tables and sell their wares as people mix and mingle. Larry and I opted not to do a table this year. We felt the need to return to our spanking roots and attend as party-goers only. We had the opportunity to meet the people we’d connected with online without having a large imposing table in front of us. Face to face was much cozier and it worked. A couple of hours later we found ourselves at a privately hosted party in a large suite that was oriented towards couples only. We met the lovely couple who hosted the party and exchanged spanking partners with another couple (I was spanked by him and Larry spanked his wife). Fun and thrillingly kinky. Larry and I awakened rather late on Saturday, due to carrying on rather late the night before. We pulled ourselves together to make a reasonable appearance before going to brunch. Some people make arrangements to meet for very private, one on one, spanking get-togethers before making their way to the big parties. Larry and I did that. The drive back to L.A. was most pleasant, both of us enjoying a good post party glow of one type or another and the beautiful desert scenery, too.

Hello folks, so sorry for my lack of posts recently, I have been preparing to hand in my PhD so have been rather pre-occupied. However, I am back and will be posting on here regularly. Here is something from my blog that you folks may not read about an implement I know is LOVED in America. The wooden paddle.

Yes, I received 24 strokes of the wooden paddle at the end of last week at full force from The Master. The Boss. The One In Charge. I was all prepared mentally on the day to receive my punishment and was suitably calm until around lunchtime when both Jadie and Mistress Switch decided to ask me whether I was nervous or not. I actually was not nervous at all. Until they asked me just that question! Anyway. To the punishment. Well, not only was there the paddle but I was given a severe reprimand before and throughout the ordeal. Bitter, Bitter humiliation! Doing this only a couple of times a year keeps a special event, well special! Finally, just to note that this is done with me and others rarely and in a safe environment with people who really know what they are doing. Only attempt this sort of level of play if you think you can handle it and are doing with someone you REALLY trust.

One of the most important things a spanking model has to have, as well as a hot ass,  is a set of limits.  I always tell a girl when I recommend them for a job to make their limits clear to other producers, in the politest way possible. Lately, I’m known more as a spanker than spankee, so people who know me from my earlier work as a spankee in Shadow Lane productions are confused as to my orientation. I’m bringing this up because I believe there are many women who begin as bottoms and end up as tops. The deal about me, though, is that I’m a true switch, which means I truly like to spank as well as be spanked.

Do I pine to be spanked while I’m spanking? No. Do I wish I was doing the spanking while being spanked? No. So, how do I determine when and where I’ll do what? It all depends on the other person involved, of course.

If I’m with my husband, Lawrence Selden, I’d prefer to be spanked. Why? Because I know that he’s a true top. His only interest in spanking is spanking women, or seeing women spanked. I don’t want to over-analyze this. The simple answer is that we want to see hot girls get spanked. But the simple answer isn’t always the right one. It would be hard to find a hotter spankee than, say, Samantha Woodley. But given the choice, I’d rather watch, say, Clare Fonda or Chelsea Pfeiffer get spanked than Samantha. In other words, there’s more to the equation than just a hot girl gittin’ her nekkid butt swatted.

I know what studios believe we want to see. They think we want schoolgirls. According to my unscientific calculations, there are overwhelmingly more spanked schoolgirl videos out there than any other grouping. There are whole websites devoted to spanked schoolgirls. There are fictional schools and teachers and students and headmasters showing up as recurring characters in on-going, spanked schoolgirl soap operas.

So has the market spoken? Is this really what we want? Or is the market not reflecting the desires of its largest group of consumers, namely horny, middle-aged males?

Personally, I’m not a big fan of the spanked schoolgirl genre. I didn’t go to Catholic school. My adolescence wasn’t filled with longing for girls in uniform. It just doesn’t do anything for me one way or another. If the young woman looks good, and she’s in a schoolgirl outfit, great. Same girl, without the uniform and I’m just as happy.

Also, I like stories, something with a beginning, middle and end — something that contains a resolution. I’m not talking about a complicated plot. Just a resolution, like girl is mouthy, girl gets spanked, girl no longer mouthy. That’s a resolution. That’s really all I need, plot-wise.

Well, maybe I am against the schoolgirl spanking genre. It seems to depend on frivolities, like, say, someone not cleaning her room. I mean, so what? Those kinds of pretexts make the entire video seem unimportant. Worse, it might even make the spanking seem unfair or disproproportional. Psychologically, I tend to root for an underdog and feel empathy for a victim of unfair or disproportional punishment. But the last thing I want to do is identify, even unconsciously, with a spankee. It impinges on my enjoyment of the video.

I don’t dislike all videos in the schoolgirl category. I’ve given positive reviews to several of them. But in general, I think the genre is overdone, and it often misses the mark. Worse, it’s lazy and half-hearted. Some studios seem to think they can take an uninspiring girl, put her in a school girl outfit, and make her sexy. Wrong!
